Is This The End For Double J & Triple J Unearthed?

The Lewis Review has earmarked digital radio as the sacrificial lamb in its quest to save money.

Looming budget cuts to the ABC's broadcasting budget could force an early death upon digital radio stations Triple J Unearthed and Double J.

In recommendations advised in the Lewis Review; a report into efficiency and possible savings at The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) and Special Broadcasting Service (SBS), digital radio was high on the hit list.

The newly formed Double J has been on the airwaves for a very short four months, but now faces an uncertain future. Headed by popular presenter Myf Warhurst, Double J appeals to the more mature audiences, whilst keeping with the same vibe as sister station Triple J.

These proposed cuts bring to the floor the notion that digital radio is not booming as initially expected. Raising more questions when you take into account your average Australian would struggle to know and define what digital radio actually is, let alone know how to access digital radio stations.
