Staff at Radio City in Liverpool are fearful of losing their jobs after
Ofcom's recent agreement to allow City Talk to cut the amount of speech
on the station.
The station, which launched 16 months ago, has
been given the all clear to limit 100 per cent speech only to peak
times, along with a late night phone-in. And whilst speech will still
be a large part of the output at other times, it is expected fewer
producers and journalists will be required.
"With great
reluctance, Radio City has entered into consultation with a small
number of staff regarding a proposal to re-shape the business," a
spokesperson told RadioToday.co.uk.
"The external environment
remains challenging and we, in line with many in the sector, are
continually investigating all ways to operate more effectively to
carefully manage our way through the current trading difficulties."
It
was also announced at other Bauer stations this week, including CFM and
Metro Radio, that "a small number of roles are in consultation with
regard to a proposal to make some of these roles redundant."
