It has been nearly a month since AOL announced that it was discontinuing Winamp, a great loss to the internet radio community. But one thing was on everyones lips, what would SHOUTcast be doing since it was so tightly connected to Winamp?
We found out a few weeks ago that the SHOUTcast crew are still under contract to develop, which means SHOUTcast isn't going anywhere soon. Or is it?
Bryon Stout from the Winamp forums pointed out earlier today that the name servers for SHOUTcast.com have been changed from AOL's servers.
Name servers are used to connect web services to a registered domain name.
The name servers have been changed to another popular internet streaming website, Radionomy. This could mean one of many things, either a merger or just a takeover. That company that was apparently in talks with AOL may not be Microsoft after all.
We will keep you updated as soon as news breaks officially.
